People and culture

Travel to Jaipur to experience the rich and colourful culture of Jaipur, the Pink City of India. The culture of Jaipur epitomizes the very essence that the state of Rajasthan stands for - royalty & chivalry, heritage & history, festivals & colours. And the people of Jaipur like any other part of Rajasthan are known for their colourful attires, their love for their heritage and tradition.

Rajasthan offers a breathtaking variety of arts & crafts that make it a state with a distinct identity. Jaipur- the capital of Rajasthan is famous across the world for its semi precious and precious stones & gems. Absolutely astounding and unique in concept, colour and workmanship, the art and handicrafts of Rajasthan are beyond comparison. Be it jewellery, painting, furniture, leatherware, pottery, metalcraft or hand-printed textiles, each object has a penetrating and irresistible appeal.

Jaipur’s Johari Bazaar has row upon row of shops selling handcrafted jewellery. Loose, precious and semi-precious stones are crafted together into an excellent range of the country’s most dramatic settings in gold. Kundan, a style of inlay setting of unpolished diamonds and other stones and Meenakari or the art of enamelled gold jewellery, is the specialty of Jaipur.

Entertainment in the capital is limited, although many hotels put on some sort of evening music, dance or puppet show. Raj Mandir Cinema, just off MI road, is the place to go if you are planning to take in atleast one Hindi film while you are in India. This opulent cinema is a Jaipur tourist attraction in its own right and is usually full, despite its immense size. Bookings can be made one day in advance and this is your best chance of securing a seat. Bowling alleys seem to be the latest rage with Jaipurians. The best alley is at Dream-land, somewhat inconveniently located in Malviya Nagar at Gaurav Tower, Bardiya Shopping Centre. This complex also has video games, the New Yorker veg fast-food eatery, and the ' Space Station ' disco. Another bowling alley is situated at Kin Pin, on the 3rd floor of Centre Point in Raja Park. Rambagh Golf Club, near the Rambagh Palace. For Tennis, there is a Jai Club, off MI road.
